Reflection about the No Borders Camp

Mexicali, November 28, 2007

We are all left with great joy after this action that has meant one year of work. We want to thank all of the compas that traveled from all over to participate in this direct action.

We managed to occupy US territory, an organized multitude of illegals, without arms, peacefully but with much courage and desire for five days.

We took the streets of Mexicali and Calexico several times to tell the world that this border needs to fall.

During the camp, despite being vigilant all the time for armed migras, helicopters, and being filmed and photographed by police officers in Mexico, we made our utopia a reality.

We achieved the establishment of an anarchist community, where, at the margin of two fascist governments, we resisted for five days.

In this camp all worked to feed ourselves, making a kitchen function for all, everyone made functioning ecological bathrooms in which, instead of contaminating the ground water with drainage, the refuse
formed a compost to nourish the land that gives us life; with small incidents and problems we managed to maintain the security of all of our companer@s.

There have not been people that have taken away from camp a feeling of being used, manipulated, or controlled by others.

This is because we managed to organize ourselves in assemblies where all participated and gave opinions, where all options were discussed until we arrived at an agreement that satisfied all those who participated in the assembly.

This camp, this anarchist community, not supported by any politicians, nor any authorities, nor government, we managed to function without authority, without leaders, or bosses, or anything of that sort.

In other words, we were able to establish an anarchist community at the margin of two governments that surveilled us but could not control us.

When we left the zone that we had managed to maintain autonomous, the tension began. Our compas painted our messages all over the border wall and when the state police arrived our organization prevented anyone from being detained.

The march when we left the autonomous zone filled us with happiness and desire, we were anarchists from many areas united, singing and shouting our thoughts and feelings, the black flags waving during the whole march.

As we arrived downtown, where the border crossing is, we continued to tag and the police stayed at the sidelines, we continued winning.

Un pequeño boquete en la valla de la frontera que hicimos entre ambos lados simbolizo y dejo huella de nuestros sueños y anhelos, queremos un mundo nuevo, sin estados, ejércitos, ni fronteras.

A little gap in the border fence that was made between both sides left our mark and symbolized our dreams and longings; we want a new world, without states, armies or borders.

The migra were so bent out of shape by seeing us victorious that between their nervousness, fear and terror, our struggle provoked them to unleash the repression and the hunting of our companer@s on the US side, beating the protesters on the other side of the border and firing rubber bullets that have left serious wounds, the same way they fire at immigrants and that have killed several immigrants and another that they caused to lose an eye in the history of the war of the migra against immigrants.

Three people were detained on the US side, two are already free, but there is a third compa named Juan Esteban Ruiz that could lose his residency and be deported; he is not alone!

We will continue struggling because the violent migra has to disappear.

We will continue struggling because in those five days we have demonstrated that anarchy is possible in the collective interest of everyone that are ready to struggle for it.

We will continue struggling because borders have to fall and states with them.

We will continue struggling because we are a new world, because there is a future if we are committed to fight for it.

THE FUTURE CAN BE OURS!
LONG LIVE ANARCHY!
