Goals of Mobilization (from some organizers on the US side)
-to counter the environment of extreme fear, racism and repression
-to undermine the border through improved cross border collaboration, communication
and action
-to create more space for action in the im/migrant justice movement
-to bridge im/migrant justice struggles with other liberatory social movements
-to create sustainable structures and momentum that continue beyond the camp
-to make this an inclusive process that is relevant to people's daily realities
-to provide hope that a fundamentally different world is possible
-to provide the opportunity for the tens of thousands of people working on these issues to collectively strategize, and coordinate action
-to analyze and break down many of the borders that separate and enclose us in our daily lives, i.e. gender roles, language, differing abilities, skill sets, clothing styles, etc.
-to organize actions with a clear message, that are also self-replicating–i.e. offering models that can be repeated in other contexts
-to publicly assert that the border is a symbol of white supremacy and war, and that white supremacy cannot be reformed
-to empower those fighting for liberation, not assimilation and nationalism
-to highlight neoliberal capitalism as the system that causes displacement and mass migration and a divided and exploitable workforce on both sides of the border
-to highlight the ecological devastation that the border causes
-to demonstrate our ability to act collectively and to build a eco-friendly camp
-to develop alternative visions of what a world would look like with freedom of movement for people and not financial interests
-to make the connection that this is a global movement
-to act with respect and acknowledgment that this is all indigenous land
-to help bring the liberation struggles of Latin America, especially Mexico, to the belly of the beast
-to create autonomous space for horizontal organizing, mutual aid, and self-determination
-to provide space for a range of tactics and safety levels
-to provide excellent medical and legal care for all participants at the camp
-to strengthen local organizing efforts through this mobilization
